60s/70s Couch Mood Board

After a photoshoot-heavy February followed by relatively little photography in March and April, I’ve become more committed to planning and executing more photoshoots in the month of May. So far I’ve done one– the Cinderella inspired one that was the focus of my last two blog posts– and today I decided on my next project.

There’s not a hard and fast storyline associated with the photoshoot I have planned, but I do have several lines of inspiration for it, so I’ll go over those and then share the inspiration photos I’ve gathered as well. I’ve titled this project “60s/70s Couch”, which was initially inspired by a brown leather couch in my basement that I thought would be a good prop in a simple photoshoot. The other main prop I have in mind is a rotary phone, which will add action into the shoot. Based on these main props, I settled on a 60s and 70s styling look, with inspiration coming from Bye Bye Birdie, Twiggy, and a series of pictures on Emma Chamberlain’s instagram that I became obsessed with recreating the look of. I’m aiming for a colorful, fun vibe that might look like an advertisement in a retro teen magazine.

As far as what I’m planning on using, I’ve got the couch and rotary phone all set to go. Wardrobe and styling will likely include chunky jewelry, vibrant and fun eye makeup, my white go-go boots, a black and white color-blocked tennis skirt, and a colorful striped long-sleeved. The outfit isn’t exactly what I originally had in mind, but without going out and buying anything new, it’s the best I can come up with at this point. Hair styles I’m considering right now are inspired by the likes of Jane Fonda, Brigitte Bardot, and the character of Kim McAfee.

The next post will detail the actual photoshoot process and will include some of the photographs, but until then, enjoy these inspiration photos! Until next time!
