So, today marked official meeting #2 of Quadio’s Visual Arts Club. I already have one post out about our orientation and first meeting, so you can check that out here.
Our prompt for today was “Shadow”, and I shared a few photos from my Shadow photoshoot. Here are two of my favorites if you haven’t seen my latest post yet:
I focuses the prompt around shadows in architecture, and these stairwell photos are easily my favorite of the bunch. As always, I loved the chance to hear some feedback about my work. I still have yet to transition my photography to video format as one of the club members suggested I do, but don’t worry– it’s still in mind.
Another great thing about today’s meeting is that we were joined by two new people! Everyone from last week’s meeting was able to attend, as well as two new members who had been unable to go to our first meeting. I was super excited, especially when I found out that their primary focus is photography like me. They shared some of the work, and it’s honestly amazing. I’m so excited to go back next week with more work that will hopefully impress, lol.
I feel like as a group we are already becoming closer, and that’s probably mostly thanks to Gabe, one of the members (and actually the one who suggested the videography route last week). He is one of the most interesting people I have ever met, and has such a unique style in his work.
He was the last member to share a piece of his work today, and to say there were some technical issues would be an understatement. However, his fluid commentary throughout the issues was one of the most entertaining things ever, and had everybody laughing until he was able to resolve the issues and share his work.
Our prompt for new week is “transition”. Our moderator, DK, said he was especially interested to see how the photographers of the group played with this prompt. I have to say I’m interested, too– definitely something I’ll have to play around with and come up with a few different ideas in order to stay true to the prompt and still capture some cool shots.
Right now, I have a few ideas. First is the idea of seasonal transition. Where I live, cherry blossoms are starting to blue which is the trailblazer of spring weather, so it might be cool to do some photography around the transition of winter to spring. I also have this interesting idea of blurred motion: in metro trains, cars, people running, dancing, etc. I think it could be a cool collection, too, though, so I might save that for another project where I can afford to spend more time on it. The last idea I’m thinking about currently has to do with metamorphosis and using butterflies in an interesting and editorial way for a cool effect on portraits.
I definitely need to flesh out these ideas more, but the wheels are definitely turning!
Until next time!
